Do You Really Know How Much Money You’ll Save?

June 15th, 2009  |  Published in How I Kicked The Habit

Take out a pen right now and calculate how much money you will save yourself. It’s easy.

Let’s say that you smoke a pack a day at about $3.50 per pack. Now multiply that by 365. This will give you a figure of $1277.50 a year. You can easily halve or double that figure depending on if you smoke less or more.

We touched on this before when we learned that it is never too late to quit smoking.

First of all, you’ll start to notice the health benefits within a few days. You’ll start to cough up even more gunk than usual. This is normal, it’s a good sign!

Benefits Of Quitting

June 15th, 2009  |  Published in How I Kicked The Habit

Sometimes it is worth reminding yourself of the incredible benefits of stopping smoking. Most people remind themselves of the benefits of stopping smoking because it helps their willpower to quit their deadly habit.

But there is a better reason to know about the benefits and not just so that you can have stronger willpower. But to remind you that the positives of quitting far exceed the negatives.

Just One More Cigarette

June 15th, 2009  |  Published in How I Kicked The Habit

Have you ever heard a smoker say “I’ll have just one more cigarette”. Probably even you have said this yourself, either to a fellow smoker or to yourself.

It’s not the same as eating too many cakes and saying “oh, I’ll have just one more cake”. Then you will feel ill because you ate too much. Or maybe you’ve said it while on a night out drinking. The next day you sure regret it when you have a wicked hangover when that “one” extra drink became “many”!

I’ll Gain Weight

June 15th, 2009  |  Published in How I Kicked The Habit

Many people think that they’ll gain weight if they stop smoking. In fact, a lot of people do gain weight when they stop smoking. But this only happens if they use the traditional NRT or willpower based methods.

They stop smoking, think something is missing in their lives and reminisce about when they used to smoke. No wonder that they never get rid of their cravings. So instead, to cure this unhappiness, the big hole in their life and the cravings, they turn to food.

It’s A Habit

June 15th, 2009  |  Published in How I Kicked The Habit

A lot of people call smoking “a habit”. I know a lot of smart ass, egotistical smokers who love to sum up the whole complexity of the global smoking addiction as - “it’s a habit”. In fact, I know a lot of people who have never smoked a cigarette in their life to announce it as “just a habit”.

Do you think that it is just a habit? Let’s take a look at what a habit is and then see if smoking falls into this group.

The Bad Advice Of Other Smokers

June 15th, 2009  |  Published in How I Kicked The Habit

Do you trust an addict? Have you ever had a friend who was addicted to one of life’s most troubling addictions, heroin or cocaine? Even if you haven’t, then I’m sure that you will have heard stories about how you should never trust a junkie or else be prepared to have things stolen from you.

Now, of course, smokers are not that desperate as we have already discussed. Cigarettes are just affordable and also widely available. But many smokers are fooled by their addiction and will give bad advice or show strange behaviour to fellow smokers, especially those who want to stop.

It’s Too Late To Stop Smoking

June 15th, 2009  |  Published in How I Kicked The Habit

Many hardened smokers who have smoked for a long time, perhaps even decades, and usually smoke a lot (over a pack a day) will say “oh, I’ve smoked for so long, there’s no point in stopping now”. Even my own father used to say this to me whenever we discussed smoking and stopping.

Does this sound like you? Do you ever think to yourself - “oh well, the damage has been done, there’s no point in stopping”. I’ll bet that you have even read in the newspaper or on the internet that your body will repair itself from the damages of cigarettes from the day that you stop. But you are choosing to ignore these facts, aren’t you?

I Choose To Smoke

June 15th, 2009  |  Published in How I Kicked The Habit

“I choose to smoke”. I always find this to be a ridiculous statement. It is usually from younger people or those people who are in denial. Actually, most heavy smokers who have wanted to quit for a while know better and that probably includes you. You know that you are addicted and need help, otherwise you would probably not be reading this book. But it’s still worth thinking for a few moments about people who believe that they “choose” to smoke because it will give us a greater insight into knowing our addiction and conquering it.

The only thing that you or they ever chose to do was to start an addiction. You lit those first few cigarettes out of curiosity even though you knew that you risked addiction or perhaps you thought that addiction could never happen to you and only to other people or “the weak”.
