Hypnosis

Hypnosis is one of the better methods of stopping smoking with a higher success rate than drugs. So, do I recommend that you use hypnosis?
First, you need to see hypnosis for what it is. Although the marketing men and doctors will tell you that it is another method, just like drugs, it really is not.
Hypnosis is about maximising the power of the mind. Really, hypnosis allows you to achieve your full potential. You cure yourself and the hypnotist just helps you to get there.
Hypnosis is a series of affirmations. By someone repeating something to you (or you doing it yourself in self-hypnosis), your subconscious mind takes on these affirmations and makes them real to you. It’s a kind of super focussing of the mind.
So if someone tells you in a hypnotherapy session that you no longer crave cigarettes then, over a period of several sessions, your cravings will disappear. Importantly, did you see how I said over a few sessions?
With most hypnotherapy to quit smoking, one session is not enough and you need a few. This is because there is a battle between your conscious mind (which is addicted) and the subconscious mind which is being trained. Over a few sessions, your mind can be trained not to crave anymore.
The downside is that, in the same way as it took a little work and several tries to work properly, the effects of hypnosis can wear off in the longer term. These methods are still much better than NRT or willpower though.
The big failure of hypnosis is that few hypnotists will use the knowledge in a guide like this to really give the big picture and understanding of what addiction really is. So in the long term, the addictive mindset can once again rear its ugly head.
The few hypnotists who truly understand addiction will incorporate the themes in this book into their sessions and the success rate is much higher. Hypnosis is not needed to quit smoking - this guide is all that you need - but hypnosis when used correctly can be a useful tool.
