Situational Smoking

Some people worry about “situational smoking” which is when they are used to having a cigarette in a time or a place or both.

Remember, we already covered why smoking is not just “a habit”. An addiction cannot be a habit, even though the addiction, the Nicodemon or whatever you want to call it might try to fool you that it is.

If you smoke at the same times or places regularly, it is because they are the most convenient times to do so that have evolved to fit around your lifestyle. It is not because of “habit”. If your circumstances were to change greatly - say your working hours or your workplace or your relationships were to change, then your smoking behaviours would naturally change too.

We all do some activities at the same times and places. So, for instance, you might tend to eat at the same places near your workplace or eat the same sorts of foods at your local grocery store. Either you are limited in your choice or you simply like some of these and don’t want to change.

The difference with smoking and the situations such as smoking when you go drinking or after a meeting at work, is that you will soon be a non-smoker. You simply won’t desire a cigarette, you won’t be addicted anymore and smoking at the times and places that you did in the past will just be completely irrelevant. It won’t even occur to you. Your life will have changed.

It’s a bit like when you change your job. Sometimes I go through a part of the city where I used to work. I see the couple of places that I used to eat at in the past. I didn’t eat there out of habit, I made a choice to eat there. But my eating behaviours evolved so that I always ate at the same two places because I was most comfortable with the choices there. It was just an evolution.

And in the same way, when you become a non-smoker, you will immediately evolve and no longer smoke in specific situations that you used to.

If you don’t believe me then it’s just your addiction playing tricks with your mind again and telling you that there is no way out - listen to me and not your addiction - have faith in me because I have been there and done it - when I stopped, I still went to bars to drink and to spend a nice Friday night. The bars were chock full of smoke, a lot of which came from my smoking friends. Did I desire or worry about a cigarette and getting any cravings? Not at all. And you won’t either.

When I decided to stop smoking using these methods that you are now learning, I was assured that I would not get any craving and I would have no desire to smoke. I placed faith in the person telling me this as you should in me. You CAN go back to your old situations, those times and places and you WILL NOT desire a cigarette. Trust, believe and have faith in what I have just said and you will have nothing to fear.
