Stop Being Blind and See Cigarettes For What They Really

Stop Being Blind and See Cigarettes For What They Really Are

Some people are just blind to the dangers of cigarettes. You probably aren’t but it is still worth examining the bad side effects from smoking. This is not for negative reasons of fear. You probably already know of some of the bad effects and these may get you stressed or worried.

You are not going to give up smoking out of fear. You are going to stop smoking because you want to have a healthy and active rest of your life. By seeing how bad cigarettes are, you’ll be able to look back in future days and feel gratitude for the positive choice that you have made.

Also, the mind of the addict will often downplay the ill effects of cigarettes. They’ll justify smoking by saying something to you like “I don’t smoke the final third of a cigarette so I’m OK” or something similar.

Let’s briefly look at the harm that cigarettes won’t do that you’ll be free from in future:

Smokers are at increased risk of getting illnesses and diseases. This is because the immune system is depressed but it will soon get back to normal levels when it ceases. For instance, smokers have a 2 to 4 fold higher risk of getting Legionnaire’s disease compared to non-smokers. This is because their respiratory systems are in a much worse state and their ability to fight off disease is also impaired.

Glaucoma risk is much higher in smokers when compared to non-smokers AND ex-smokers. So by quitting smoking, the risk starts to decrease immediately.

Look at most modern premature causes of death like heart disease, cancer, diabetes, respiratory illness and others and you’ll find that the chances are much higher if you smoke.

Here’s a stat I saw on television the other day - around 20% of people are smokers. And around 75% of us can expect to live to our 70s. Can you guess which group of people is most likely to be in that 25% that do not reach their 70s? Obesity is a big problem but smoking is much worse.

What does a cigarette actually contain? Here are just some of the toxic and carcinogenic compounds that you breathe in that you might not have known: cyanide, aluminium, arsenic, ammonia, butane, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, lead and benzene. These are just a few of the hundreds of toxic compounds in cigarettes.

When you stop smoking, you’ll be able to breathe again only what nature intended - a wonderful blend of air containing the exact amount of oxygen that you need. Personally, I found that air actually tasted better after I stopped smoking. There is nothing better than leaving the indoors and experiencing the full refreshing taste of pure air!

And last of all, smokers these days are unfortunately persecuted. The law is designed to protect non-smokers and workers. I do feel sorry for the smokers today who are huddled up in groups outside. Maybe you’ve experienced it yourself in New York, California, the EU or anywhere else that has banned smoking in all public places. You might think that it is still worth smoking but when you do it then you are not actively exercising a choice or a decision. The addiction is making you think that brutal conditions are OK! It is no different to a heroin or crack addict lying and stealing to get their fix then living in the worst conditions in abandoned houses. Their addiction too, lulls them into thinking that living in damp and dark places with no electricity or water and littered with needles is OK!

But you do have a choice or decision in whether you wish to carry on with this addiction. You do have a choice to look at your own addiction for what it is and to say “No” to cigarettes, to say “No” to your addiction and decide to be free. And soon, you’ll have that freedom.
